Via Carota - West Village, NYC

The bar at Via Carota - great place to dine solo
After enjoying my meal at Buvette so much, I found myself at another of chef Jody Williams restaurants last night, Via Carota. This is a joint venture with another popular West Village chef, Rita Sodi of I Sodi fame.  The menu is Italian and heavily leaning toward well sourced preparations of local and seasonal foods- loads of veggies.  The restaurant is simple and welcoming, with a huge marble bar and bistro style tables with mismatched flea market chairs and antique decor.

Address: 51 Grove Street, New York, NY

Grilled octopus with green olive pesto.
Excellent- and plates aren't massive so
you can enjoy several things without
being too full or wasting anything.

Pappardelle with wild boar ragu.
This was amazing.
The pasta was perfect - thin but still
maintains a toothy feel- absorbs the sauce
which was meaty and rich but not overwhelming.
Grilled chicken in lemon vinaigrette- again really
perfectly seasoned and both crisp and juicy.

Prosciutto with Parmigiano and balsamic - good-
not as good as Maialino - but a worthy
start to the meal.
Crusty bread with olive oil.
Eggplant parmigiana- fantastic flavors- like
your very skilled Nonna would make.
Grilled artichokes with lemon aioli and grilled onions.
Delicious. Little bit of kick in the marinade and the
onions compliment the artichoke perfectly.
